The Pennsylvania based staffing solutions company recently hit their 20th year in business and also their 20th year with Tricom. Owned by Mario and Tammy Ford, Careers Express has reached a milestone achievement that many business owners never reach. We recently talked with Tammy about Careers Express and how they got to where they are today.
Tricom: Tell us about Careers Express.
Tammy Ford: Careers Express is regionally recognized through the Minority Supplier Development Council (MSDC of PA-NJ-DE) as certified minority-female owned temporary and direct-hire staffing solutions company located in King of Prussia. Our primary mission is to provide extraordinary customer service to our clients. We achieve our mission by remaining committed to results as well as being sensitive to our clients’ needs. We have a proven track record of providing quality service to quality conscious employers based on our core business principles. For 20 years, Careers Express has been providing temporary office support workers for large to small organizations throughout the metropolitan and suburban areas. Feedback from our unique client base clearly indicates the highest level of satisfaction with the quality of service provided by Careers Express. We believe our success is the result of positive working relationships between our staffing consultants and our customers’ management teams. Our proven track record of providing low turn-over, quality-staffing services indicates our ability to provide high quality temporary office support personnel on an unlimited basis to our customers.
Tricom: How did your business start?
Tammy: Within my family lineage, I came out of three generations of entrepreneurs. I always had an inward perception that I would someday continue the family trajectory of first class business owners. My background comes out of retail management combined with Human Resources. When I left retail management, I was fortunate to have worked in Corporate Human Resources for a major future 1000 company handling staff augmentation and managing a contingency workforce of 300-400 temporaries daily. During that period, I had the opportunity to work extensively with outside employment staffing firms, which prompted my interests in working in the staffing industry. Because of my service background in retail management and exposure working with outside recruiters, I decided to leave the comforts of my Corporate Human Resources job to work for an Independent Staffing firm and became their Branch Manager. After working a number of years in this role, I absolutely fell in love with the industry. However, after having my second child I was faced with two options: Return to the business service sector or become self-employed so I could spend more time with my child at home. Out of a desire to have more flexibility with my young children, I decided not to return to work. After having time at home with my children I wrote my business plan, found an office space, obtained a business loan and opened Careers Express on April 4th, 1994. The business took off and I never turned back.
Tricom: What are your goals for the next 5 years?
Tammy: Our company goal over the next five years is to open a few more locations. We have a desire to develop or invest into other young entrepreneurs who, like myself, have a desire to innovate and use their creativity to impact industries and communities at large.
Tricom: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about Careers Express?
Tammy: We are a husband and wife team who love working every day together. This is amazing to most people.
Tricom: Any tips of the trade you would like to share?
Tammy: Always personalize your services specific to each customer. Make your customers feel unique and exclusive. Provide them with the most extraordinary client care you can offer for them so they keep coming back for more. The reason we are still around is because of the loyalty we have earned with most of our customer base. We are reliable and consistent with making our customers satisfied with the level of quality of employees we are able to provide. Many of our customers are long-standing because of our philosophy to make the perfect match each time they call us. A good majority of our customers have been with us for 10-15 years. We contribute our success to the excellence of our staff and being sensitive to every client need, providing quality staffing to quality conscience people. In our upcoming celebrations on April 25th, we will have the pleasure of honoring a number of loyal customers who have been with us for over 10-15 years. If it were not for our devoted customers, we would not be here today.
