Legislative Updates

The Florida minimum wage will to increase by 12 cents to $7.79 per hour effective January 1, 2013.

For tipped employees, the minimum wage will increase to $4.77 per hour on January 1, in addition to tips.

Washington state's minimum wage increases by 15 cents to $9.19 an hour starting on New Year's Day, the state Department of Labor & Industries announced Friday.

The state's minimum wage is adjusted each year for inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index over the preceding 12 months. This past year, it is up 1.67 percent. The yearly recalculation is required by Initiative 688, which Washington voters passed in 1998.

The N.C. General Assembly recently passed E-Verify legislation that will become effective as follows: 

Effective Oct. 1, 2012—employers with 500 or more employees will be required to use E-Verify to check work authorization for all new hires. 

Effective Jan. 1, 2013—employers with 100 or more employees will be required to use E-Verify to check work authorization for all new hires.
